The Fourth of July is approaching, and one of our favorite weeks of the year has officially arrived!

With beautiful beach days, fireworks lighting up the coastline, lobster rolls, ice cream cones, and memories waiting to be made, Southern Maine is ready to welcome you. As many of our guests begin arriving over the next few days, we wanted to share a few tips to help you stay cool, comfortable, and make the most of your vacation—even during this week’s heat advisory.

☀️ Stay Hydrated

It sounds simple, but it’s one of the most important reminders. Pack a reusable water bottle for beach days, bring plenty of drinks along for adventures, and don’t forget that the ocean breeze can make it easy to forget just how warm it really is.

🏖️ Make Your Beach Day Comfortable

A little preparation goes a long way!

We recommend bringing:

A beach umbrella or sun shelter
Plenty of sunscreen (and reapplying often!)
Beach towels
Water and snacks
A cooler with refreshing drinks
Hats and sunglasses

Planning an early morning or evening beach visit is another great way to enjoy the coast while avoiding the hottest part of the day.

❄️ Let Your Air Conditioning Do the Work

Whether your vacation home has central air, mini splits, or window AC units, they’re designed to keep you comfortable.

To help them perform their best:

Keep windows and exterior doors closed.
Set thermostats around 68-72°F rather than the lowest possible temperature.
If an AC seems to be struggling, don’t panic! During extreme heat, systems often run continuously to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature. Simply keeping doors and windows closed allows them to work much more efficiently.
